Vestas 299 MW Canada Project

Vestas has secured an order for 166 V100-1.8 MW wind turbines for Canada.
With reference to the Vestas Wind System A/S company announcement No. 13 of 8 April 2013, Vestas has secured a firm and unconditional order for the delivery of 166 V100-1.8 MW wind turbines along with a 20-year service and maintenance agreement for the 299 MW Blackspring Ridge Wind Project, a joint venture of EDF EN Canada Inc. and Enbridge. It marks the largest order for Vestas wind turbines in Canada.

Deliveries for Blackspring Ridge, located near Lethbridge, Alberta, are scheduled for the second half of 2013 and commissioning is expected to occur by mid-2014.
The 20-year service agreement – the longest in Vestas’ history in the U.S. and Canada – features the Active Output Management (AOM) 5000 service option. AOM 5000 features an energy-based availability guarantee to ensure the turbines are operational when the wind is blowing. This service option includes the VestasOnline® surveillance system that remotely controls and monitors the turbines and predicts potential maintenance issues. This allows Vestas to plan maintenance so the turbines are operational for the maximum amount of time.
Vestas’ U.S. factories in Colorado will be involved in manufacturing components for Blackspring Ridge, which will become Canada’s sixth wind power plant to use V100-1.8 MW turbines. Overall, more than 600 V100-1.8 MW turbines are producing energy at 13 sites across Canada and the United States.

EDF EN Canada and Enbridge will develop and own Blackspring Ridge. Once commissioned, it will be the largest wind power plant in Western Canada with the capacity to provide electricity to nearly 140,000 households.
Vestas installed its first wind turbines in the Canadian market in 1997 and since has become the leading wind-turbine supplier in the country and in Alberta.

During a lightning storm at work started filming on the off chance we would catch a strike. Little did I know we were about to catch a blade strike.



A danish Nordtank wind turbine suffers a brake failure ( which are manufactured by Vestas ), and collapses near Hornslet, Denmark.




Egin, Salisbury & Riverview Fire respond to a Wind Mill on fire at the Wind Mill Farm in Parkingdale/ Caledonia Mountain at 8:48am.
There was nothing the Fire dept could do but watch it burn as they have nothing that goes up that high. This is about 30 kms outside of Riverview New Brunswick. Damage will be in the millions of dollars.

Vestas V80 Wind Turbine Crash



Vestas V80 destroyed by fire in Ontario

This is unbelievable!! In one week two times Vestas wind turbine destroyed. This is really huge disappointment for Vestas side. And nowadays everybody has same question in mind. What is wrong with Vestas wind turbines ?? 

CANADA: An investigation is under way at a 40MW project in Ontario after one of its Vestas V80 1.8MW turbines caught fire.

The fire was at the Kingsbridge project, near Goderich, which was built in 2005. It is owned by utility Capital Power. Images of the incident show the nacelle was completely burnt out.

In 2011, a 2MW V80 caught fire in high winds at the Ardrossan wind farm in Ayrshire, Scotland. The incident occurred as the northern half of the UK faced winds of up to 165 miles per hour.

Last year Vestas was hit by a number of fires in its turbines. In April, the nacelle of a V112 3MW turbine caught fire in Germany, while in June a V90 in Spain suffered a similar fate.

The Spanish fire was caused by an arc flash during servicing, while the German incident was the result of a loose connection in the electrical system.

Last week a Vestas V52 collapsed in high winds at a project in Donegal, Ireland.
